Nibbana is the Pali word that we hear for the Cessation of suffering. What is means literally is to "go out" or "extinguish" as in putting out a fire. The fire metaphor is related both to the celestial fires that we keep adding fuel to in our cycle of Samsara (birth death and rebirth), as well as the fires that burn of greed, hatred and delusion. These three are known as the Three Poisons. ( Lobha or greed, Dosa or hatred and Moha or delusion or ignorance)

When we are willing to spend time each day in practice, we can develop wisdom, morals and collectedness. These three qualities of mind allow us to extinguish the fires that the Three Poisons ignite. Meditation, development of the Noble Eightfold Path and contemplation of the Four Noble Truths will help you attain freedom, first in small ways and in time this freedom will grow.

Like we all have heard, the Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Have you begun your journey?
