About
Cary Keishin Brief
“Allowing difficulty to be our teacher.”
Cary Keishin Brief has been practicing and teaching in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition for many years. He founded Sit Raleigh to offer accessible, donation-based practice to anyone in the Triangle area, regardless of background or experience.
The teaching is offered by dana — generosity — so that the Dhamma remains available to all.
Cary currently is a chaplain at Wake Med Cary and at the Granville Correctional Institution in Butner, NC. Prior to Wake Med, Cary served as the Buddhist Chaplain at Duke University, guiding the Buddhist Meditation Community at Duke, Resident Chaplain at Rex and Chaplain Intern at UNC Chapel Hill.
Cary's Buddhist Chaplaincy training was with Roshi Joan Halifax and Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, NM.

About Sit Raleigh
Sit Raleigh is a donation-based meditation community rooted in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition. We gather weekly for sitting meditation, walking meditation, and dharma talks grounded in the Buddha's early teachings.
All programs are offered by dana — generosity — with a suggested donation of $10. No one is turned away for lack of funds, and no prior experience is needed.
What to expect
A typical Tuesday evening session includes a period of guided seated meditation, a short dharma talk, and open discussion. Saturday morning sessions at the NC Museum of Art feature a silent sit outdoors, weather permitting.
